Hendon Golf Club’s policy is always to be looking at how we can improve our golf course for oor members and visitors.

Our winter course work has now started, here is an overview of what has been done so far and what is in the pipeline for the rest of the winter.

15th Tee

We are already well underway on rebuilding the 15th tee to eliminate drainage problems. This work includes replacing the drainage, levelling the tee and reducing the height of surrounding trees to allow more sunlight onto the turf which will all be renewed later in the winter

3rd Fairway

We have almost completed removing the bunker on the left-hand side of the 3rd fairway and this has also allowed us to level out the area between the cross bunker and the green.

2nd Green

Weather permitting we are hoping hoping to replace the bowl on the left-hand side of the 2nd green and landscape it so that instead of a bowl we create a surface that allows water to run off the green more efficiently.

12th  & 16th Greens

We have removed and relaid the collars in front of the 12th and 16th greens and replaced the sub surface with sandy soil and then re-turfed both greens. We also hope to do the same work in front of the 1st green.

General Maintenance

On a more general note we hope, weather permitting to catch up with the aeration programme on the greens, tees and approaches and will be ‘verti-draining’ the fairways when conditions allow.

New Shoe Cleaning Area

We have built a new shoe cleaning area and added a second machine. The manufacturers have warned us that these compressors are not designed to be used to remove thick mud from trolleys but only from golf shoes. We have, therefore, purchased a separate water pressure hose which will be placed in the shoe cleaning area for use of members and visitors to clean their brollies.
